DOCASON PSU
polysulfone (PSU)

Product features

DOCASON PSU is an unreinforced, unfilled amorphous polysulfone (PSU).

Honey

product family features

The use of PSUs is recommended where chemical, chemical or thermal stresses are present in addition to mechanical stress. High purity, good chemical and hydrolysis resistance, suitable for repeated steam sterilisation. It has excellent heat ageing resistance. Can be used up to 180°C for short periods. It has a characteristic colour: translucent, reminiscent of amber or honey. Available in rod and sheet formats.

DOCASON PSU

Some important features

  • High strength, stiffness (yield strength 50-105 MPa, tensile strength, compressive strength)
  • High toughness at low temperatures - no breakage
  • High hardness (ball indentation: 167 MPa)
  • Wide application temperature range: -50°C to +180°C
  • Very good chemical resistance
  • Physiologically neutral, may come into contact with food and medicines
  • Excellent dimensional stability, good damping capacity
  • Favorable creep resistance over a wide temperature range (10-30 MPa for 1% tension at 1000 h at 23°C)
  • Good electrical insulation
  • Good resistance to high-energy radiation

Main areas of application

Machine components and sub-assemblies, mainly in the food industry, medicine, which have to be cleaned and sterilised frequently (e.g. milking machines, heat exchangers, filters, pumps, etc.).

Machining technology

Chipping (turning, milling, drilling, sawing): conventional tools can be used, but only with a sharp finish. Cooling is recommended, with cutting speeds of v = 200-400 m/min for turning and milling, v = 50-100 m/min for drilling.

Gluing: is feasible (but more difficult than PVDF with similar properties).

Available formats

  • PSU plate
  • PSU rod
