Product features

DOCA PVDF is an unreinforced polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) with a crystalline structure. In addition to its good mechanical, thermal and electrical properties, it is also resistant to chemicals.

Natural

product family features

Like Teflon, PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) is a member of the fluoropolymer family. It is a material with higher strength than Teflon, also with excellent chemical resistance and high heat resistance. It can be used up to about 150 degrees Celsius, which is lower than Teflon, but a higher level of durability compared to common engineering plastics (e.g. POM or polyamide). In terms of heat resistance and mechanical properties, it is not yet at the level of the PEEK family, but this is also true of its price level, which places it between Teflon and PEEK, and PVDF, which is also available in rod, sheet and tube form. An electrically conductive (ELS) version is also available.

Some important features

  • High strength (yield strength, tensile strength and compressive strength: 50-105 MPa)
  • High toughness - does not break
  • High hardness (Rockwell: M 75 - M 114)
  • Dimensional stability, good damping capacity
  • Favourable creep resistance (10-30 MPa for 1% tension at 1000 h at 23°C)
  • Wide application temperature range: -50°C/+150°C,
  • Very good chemical resistance
  • Physiologically neutral, may come into contact with food and medicines
  • The basic version has good electrical insulation and dielectric properties
  • Good resistance to high-energy radiation

Main areas of application

Machine components and assemblies - especially in the food industry, medicine - that need to be cleaned and sterilised frequently (e.g. milking machines, heat exchangers, filters, pumps, etc.)

Machining technology

  • Chipping (turning, milling, drilling, sawing): conventional tools can be used, but only with a sharp finish. Cooling is recommended, with cutting speeds as follows (e.g. v = 200-400 m/min for turning and milling, v = 50-100 m/min for drilling).
  • Gluing: feasible.
