product family features

PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) combines both outstanding chemical resistance and mechanical properties. It has excellent dimensional stability, which it retains at elevated temperatures - up to 200°C for short periods, and very low thermal expansion.

The glass fibre reinforced version of 30% (PBT GF30, GF or glass fibre PBT) is much more common than the unreinforced version. Its impact resistance is excellent at both high and low temperatures. It also has the high strength and stiffness typical of glass fibre composites. It is recommended for significant static loads rather than for sliding applications. Available in sheet and rod formats.

DOCA PBT GF30

Some important features

  • High strength (yield strength 46 MPa)
  • High toughness (Charpy: 37 KJ/m2)
  • Good machinability
  • Wide application temperature range: up to 110°C for long term, up to 200°C for short term
  • Good damping capacity
  • Low moisture absorption
  • Good chemical resistance

Main areas of application

Characterized by high dimensional stability and excellent mechanical damping and sound insulation. Recommended for applications requiring impact resistance, thermoforming. Suitable mainly for indoor applications, sensitive to UV radiation. For outdoor applications, lacquered and galvanized (surface coated) versions of the finished products are also produced by end-users. Electronic industry, electrical equipment, mechanical engineering, automotive are the main applications.

Machining technology

Chipping (turning, milling, drilling, boring, reaming, sawing): traditional metal, in some cases woodworking tools - carbon steel, high speed steel, carbide, diamond - can be used with a sharp finish. Cooling is recommended to allow high cutting speeds, e.g. v = 100-500 m/min for turning and milling, v = 50-100 m/min for drilling.

Gluing and welding: is feasible.
