The European plastics recycling sector is under increasing pressure. In 2023, many recycling companies have been forced to close down and further closures are expected. The downward trend in the European plastics recycling market is a cause for concern. The decline in demand for recycled materials produced in Europe, the fall in investment in recycling and the increase in imports of recycled materials from non-EU countries have virtually strangled the European plastics recycling industry in recent years.
