Prior to the outbreak of the coronavirus, US cities and states had made some progress in banning plastic bags and single-use plastics and replacing them with reusable products and packaging. However, they are now delaying (or withdrawing) the ban on plastic bags, fearing that reusable products will spread the infection. Many retail outlets are banning customers from putting their own bags, and municipalities are 'rethinking' recycling operations, citing health concerns.
