One important but sometimes neglected step in plastic processing is the ventilation and degassing of the machine. The purpose of this step is to remove unwanted volatile contaminants such as unreacted monomers, solvents, water, dissolved gases from the polymer slurry. The degassing of extruders is discussed below.
