Plastics Review

Planning should only be based on feasibility analysis

The preparation of a plastic product with a complex structure requires the involvement of a wide range of specialists. Early in the design process, a materials specialist must be consulted to help select the material, a competent person must carry out simulation experiments to meet the objectives, and the mould manufacturer cannot be consulted early enough to decide whether the designer's ideas are feasible. The know-how of several disciplines was also needed to successfully injection mould a delicate product such as a large-surface laptop lid with an extremely small wall thickness in a demonstration production run.
